John's Story
John King is a Class A PGA Professional with more than 25 years of experience dedicated to player development and high-performance coaching. He currently operates John King Golf Coaching & Instruction at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Alabama, where he works with players of all skill levels—from beginners to competitive athletes—helping them build efficient, repeatable swings through a structured, data-driven approach.
John is the founder of the JKG Performance Band System™, an innovative training framework designed to improve movement patterns, sequencing, and overall swing efficiency. His coaching integrates advanced technology including TrackMan, 3D motion analysis, and pressure mapping to create highly personalized development plans tailored to each player’s physical capabilities and goals.
From 2018 to 2026, John served as Head Golf Professional at Poland Spring Resort in Poland, Maine, where he led all aspects of golf operations including player development, merchandising, tournament management, and member and guest services. During his tenure, he coached players of all levels while continuing to refine his structured approach to long-term player development.
Previously, John was the Director of Instruction and owner of The Golf Performance Studio of Auburn in Auburn, Alabama—an indoor training and player development facility built around cutting-edge technology and comprehensive coaching programs ranging from single-session diagnostics to long-term performance development.
A native of Portland, Maine, John’s teaching career spans elite resorts and private clubs across the East Coast from Maine to Florida. Early in his career, he was recruited by Ken Venturi, working for eleven years at the Ken Venturi Golf Academy at Greenlefe in Haines City, Florida. He later advanced to Director of Instruction and owner at the academy’s location at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
From 2005 to 2014, John served as Director of Instruction at Saugahatchee Country Club, where he earned recognition from the Dixie Section PGA as both Teacher of the Year and Junior Golf Leader for the Alabama Chapter. He was also ranked among the top instructors in the state, earning #3 Top Teacher in Alabama by Golf Digest.
John’s recent honors further reflect his commitment to excellence across both coaching and operations. He was named the 2025 New England PGA Maine Chapter Teacher of the Year, a Golf Digest Top Teacher in State for 2025 and 2026, and the 2024 New England PGA Merchandiser of the Year – Resort Category.
John remains committed to continuous education and innovation in coaching. His philosophy is centered on helping each player discover the most efficient swing for their body—combining biomechanics, technology, and structured training systems to deliver measurable, lasting improvement.
